#18 & #34 Declutter my messy bedroom and purge my wardrobe of all clothes that I no longer wear and donate them to charity.

This next item on the list was a longer-term project which began about a year ago, in Lockdown 1 (the original and best) last March, when I turned all of my clothes hangers the wrong way around. The theory is that when you wear something you remove it from the hanger and then put it back correctly afterwards.

A year later, anything still facing the wrong way is sold or given away. Of course you may well have a few outfits that you only wear to weddings, parties or special events and we haven't had many of those recently; so I was probably less ruthless than I could have been.

I removed all of the unworn clothes and then turned the hangers of everything that was left, so that I can repeat the process next Easter. You can see one of my wardrobes here, after that had been done.

I removed quite a lot of clothes! Two bags went straight to the clothing collection bank, they were clean and decent but I didn't think the shops would have any use for them. However someone in need might find something to be of use.

For the last four weeks the rest of the stuff, some of it never worn and still with tags attached, had been taking up space in my bedroom, waiting for the charity shops to start accepting large donations. However today I finally loaded all six bags into the back of the car and took it all to the local Cancer Research Campaign shop.

I am proud to say that this whole process has made me much more appreciative of the clothes I still have, not least because I can now find them! I have worn at least three outfits recently that I had forgotten I still owned.

I have also been strict with myself about putting everything away each night, so as to avoid the creation of a new chairdrobe!

It was also a nice feeling to donate it all to charity. I could have sold some of it but who has time for that? Also an impromptu visit to the high street provided an excellent excuse for a good mooch around the craft market and a restorative coffee and cupcake.
